| Between the years of 2335 and 2342 the Federation began
to expand beyond all limits of previous expectations. In essence Federation space was
becoming too large to transverse by base related starships such as the newly developed
Ambassador and the ageing Excelsior Classes. Based on the current logistical information, the Federation would within the next twenty years become so large that further starbases would need to be constructed and in addition previous areas which had once been considered Deep Space would be soon part of the Federation. Hostilities were on the rise at the time though. Activity in the Klingon and Romulan empires was low, however the newly discovered Cardassian and Tzenkethi Empire were proving to be major problems with all diplomatic efforts meeting with cold silence. Hostilities were predicted to begin within the next five years. Starfleet itself was low in numbers and seriously in need of new ships so a massive building plan was laid out which included over a dozen new classes of starships. These classes were separated into two groups, Pathfinder vessels and Active Production vessels. The Active Production vessels were to be the polished Nebula, Galaxy and Cheyenne Classes all to be based on Modular Components. The Pathfinder Vessels were to include the Steamrunner, New Orleans and Akira Classes. |
