| The Ambassador class starship construction project is
based at Earth Station McKinley. First constructed as a front-line warship and defensive
platform designed to replace the Excelsior class ships, the Ambassador class continues to
serve as one of the best equipped and most durable design of its kind. Though never fully
replacing the Excelsior class, the ambassador class, with greater lift capability and
internal capacity to lengthen operating range, as well as upgraded defense and weapons
systems, has become a formidable battleship in Starfleet’s military arsenal and
serves as a key elementin the backbone of the Federation’s defense. The Ambassador class showed its full capabilities while successfully participating in the defense of Sector 001 during the Borg incursions, and continues to earn the respect of the fleet, fighting alongside many of today's more advanced classes during the Dominion War. It is somewhat of an irony to note that many of the celebrated ship classes of the late 24th century are seen to have borrowed many of their funadmental buidling constructs from the Ambassador class. Furthermore, it is generally held that the Ambassador is one of three classes that form the backbone of the Starfleet's tactical advantage over agressor states: The Excelsior class, Ambassador class, and the Galaxy class. |
